Evans Examiner: Budget Week
This week, we began one of our most important responsibilities as your legislators, determining the FY 2027 budget.
So many questions!
Throughout the week, we've heard from many state agencies and organizations who receive Georgia taxpayer dollars about whether additional funding is needed and why.
This presented an opportunity for us to ask questions on why these requests are being made, who they benefit, and who they leave out.
Speaking of being left out, I had the opportunity to shine a light on the lack of inclusion of Technical Colleges in the Georgia Dream Scholarship (needs-based aid program announced by Governor Kemp). We've got to ensure that this opportunity is extended to all Georgians who pursue post-secondary education.
Politically Georgia!
This week, I had the privilege of appearing on the AJC’s Politically Georgia podcast to talk about Georgia’s first needs-based scholarship. We discussed this win for Georgians throughout the state and the work still to be done ahead to make this opportunity more inclusive.
What’s next?
Because of the expected bad weather across our state, legislators are encouraged to stay in their districts. This is particularly important for our legislators in our northern most counties. While we technically will gavel in for Monday, Legislative Day 6, it will be a VERY short day. The Speaker and Majority Leader will be gaveling in and then immediately adjourning session until Tuesday January 27th.
Until then, catch up on the Joint Appropriation Budget meetings!
In service,
